November 18, 2014
Despite Federal law that prohibits taxpayer funding of elective abortions, hundreds of health care plans are now offering it and taxpayers are funding these abortions through the Affordable Care Act. As the US Senate considers legislation to stop the practice the Bishops are urging Catholic Voice NC participants to contact Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan.
Bishops Issue Statement on Status of NC Marriage Amendment
Released October 8, 2014
The Supreme Court has unfortunately decided not to hear several cases that struck down democratically enacted state constitutional amendments upholding marriage as being between one man and one woman. Some lower courts have unjustly ruled that a traditional definition of marriage is unconstitutional.
Millions of Americans have looked to the Supreme Court to put this issue to rest by supporting marriage as being between one man and one woman. We know from our Catholic teaching that marriage is a permanent, faithful, and fruitful covenant joining a man and a woman. It is our duty to continue to affirm marriage in this way, and it is our hope that the Supreme Court will ultimately agree.
